Samuel Gross was born on January 6, 1810, in Union county, Pennsylvania, died March 26, 1894. In July 1831 he moved with his parents Herny (Sr. gunsmith) and Jane Gross to Tiffin. Ohio. He was married, April 29, 1830 to Ann Owen, born March 7, 1807 in Perry county.
They located in Bloom Township in 1831.Samuel Gross was a mechanic, made and repaired guns, pistols, clocks, watches and many other things. In 1886 they still occupy the log house which they built upon comming to Bloom Township. Samuel served as township trustee three terms, clerk one term and filled other local and township offices of trust.
U.S. Census of 1860, showed Samuel Gross age 50, farmer and mechanic, wife, Ann, both born in Pennsylvania with 3 females
born in Ohio, all living in Bloomville, Bloom township, Seneca County. He was noted as a practical mechanic who could
repair clocks, watches and other mechanical devices, as well as firearms.
